Beautiful wedding photography The Hurt Arms Ambergate

All About The Hurt Arms - Wedding Photography

The Hurt Arms is a truly gorgeous Derbyshire wedding venue which perfectly mixes rustic charm of the original pub building with a stunning industrial feel to the new Tollgate Suite on the wedding room side. Exposed brickwork, lots of sawn timber and retro styled lighting all work together to create the perfect setting for stunning wedding photography.

Set right in the heart of some amazing countryside it has extensive grounds which make for stunning winter walks with a background of vibrant colour from autumn leaves or romantic summer strolls and is really easy to get to from both Nottingham and Derby.

I also need to mention the wedding team at The Hurt Arms, from your dedicated wedding co-ordinator to the bar staff and restaurant team everyone works together brilliantly to ensure your day runs like absolute clockwork. Its always such a stress free and relaxed day and if the weather takes a turn for the worse they are able to accommodate access to the main room during turnaround for some beautifully lit indoor wedding photography.

Getting Ready for the Wedding Day at The Hurt Arms

Originally a traveller's inn, The Hurt Arms has lots of unique rooms to rest your head the night before and then get ready for the wedding day with lots of space and nice light airy windows which make for very flattering wedding photographs.

Theres no need to worry about arriving on time for the ceremony as you only have to make your way downstairs and there are lots of rooms for wedding guests to stay over too.

There are six suites all uniquely designed, including the honeymoon suite, complete with a free-standing roll top bath!

The Hurt Arms Wedding Ceremony Room

The Hurt Arms is a really intimate venue, where ever your guests are seated in the main wedding ceremony room (which comfortably seats up to 70 people) they will have a perfect view as you say your vows.

Getting Married at The Hurt Arms Wedding Venue

The ceremony room has a stunning rustic feel with bare brick walls and industrial styled lighting fixtures.

I am able to photograph the whole ceremony without the need to move around and with the floor to ceiling windows during the spring and summer months natural light floods in and usually negates the need for any flash photography.

For winter weddings I bring along some discrete off camera flash lighting to ensure your pictures are perfectly exposed to create a gorgeous gallery of photographs whatever the season or weather.

I always work very discretely and without distraction to the wedding proceedings but the beautiful natural lighting mean I really can just blend into the background.

Beautiful Natural Relaxed Photographs of Just the Two of You

The grounds at The Hurt Arms make a gorgeous backdrop for wedding portraits of just the two of you.

I work quickly, with lots of laughs to capture some natural relaxed photographs of the two of you. The surrounding field is available for a romantic wander to let it all sink in and the adjacent walkways and ceremony room all make for perfect backdrops.

Top ideas for amazing wedding photography at The Hurt Arms

  1. Confetti is allowed at the venue which is great news, for a group shot with everyone throwing confetti of the front entrance steps of the venue are perfect… if you would prefer to walk between rows of your guests as they bombard…. sorry, gently scatter confetti over you then the path running through the Talbot Suite garden makes a great location to get everyone in a row with a nice countryside background

  2. Autumn and winter weddings at The Hurt Arms work really well, they have a big heated marque with a bar so there is no waiting outside when the room turnaround takes place. Depending on what time you get married daylight is especially limited from November through to January.

Often a 13:30pm ceremony only leaves 90 minutes before you are back in for dinner so as part of our detailed consultation we can nail down when to sneak off to take some relaxed gorgeous wedding photographs of just the two of you, making the most of the winter skies and the amazing features of the venue.

  3. Spring and summer weddings mean you can usually make full use of the grounds of the venue which are just amazing. Rolling countryside, traditional stone walls, ancient trees and views of the river Derwent make for the most beautiful wedding photographs. There’s lots of room for children to let off steam and with a great view of the horizon there is always the chance of a nice sunset photograph to end the day.

Winter Wedding What if it Rains on my Hurt Arms Wedding Day?

If you hire a great wedding photographer for your Hurt Arms wedding then there’s absolutely no need to worry. If you are planning a late autumn or winter wedding the chances increase a little but its really not a problem, in fact a rainy windy wedding day becomes an opportunity to get outside and create some truly beautiful and unique wedding photographs.

So, if you do pull back the curtains on your big day to find there’s a storm brewing it down don’t stress! Phallon & Andy’s wedding above took place in the middle of a named storm event and amber warnings for wind and snow but that didn’t get in the way of taking some gorgeous photographs.

The creative off camera flash comes out along with an umbrella or two and between us we will take some dramatic ‘wow’ shots of the two of you both inside and outside of the venue.

I set up all the required lighting without you and then fire some test shots of myself to check everything looks as I hope, that way you are outdoors for as little time as possible, I just walk you into the shot, take it and then you can get back to the party!

We had Mat do our photography for our wedding day at The Hurt Arms, all we have to say is Wow!

Mat is very professional and experienced in what he does. You didn’t even know he was there but the photo quality was perfect from start to finish.

We highly recommend him to anyone looking for a wedding photographer!
Thank you so much Mat
